Prices maintained a steady level at Coonoortea auctions, thanks to active participation from blenders, upcountry buyers and exporters.
Traders said firm enquiries are coming from North India because of lower production there due to winter. The trade is also anticipating a lower crop in the south as the visible effects of La Niña are leading to colder conditions across tea gardens. This is likely to hit the crop in the coming weeks.
Global Tea Auctioneers said the quantity offered in leaf grades was 15,35,140 kg with 94 per cent sold, while dust varieties witnessed 82 per cent sale out of the offered quantity of 4,01,027 kg.
The high priced teas and better liquoring sorts in leaf grades were barely steady to easier by ₹2-3 and more at times, though occasionally some lots sold dearer by ₹2-3 and more in line with quality. The better medium sorts were lower by ₹2-3.

In leaf orthodox, the primary whole leaf grades were lower by ₹4-5 and more at times with some withdrawals. The primary brokens also sold lower by ₹2-3.
The high priced teas and better liquoring sorts in CTC dust were barely steady to dearer by Rs3 to 4. The better medium sorts were steady to occasionally dearer by Rs1 to 2. The medium and plainer sorts were barely steady to occasionally easier by Re1 with fair withdrawals more towards the later end of the sale.
